A pair of vintage novelty cufflinks made in Austria, designed to resemble miniature thermometer or gauge dials. The cufflinks have a mid-century industrial/scientific aesthetic with gold-tone brass construction and a lightly aged patina. Each circular face features a white enamel-style dial marked with temperature-style numbers ranging roughly from 0 to 150°F, with a visible black coiled spring mechanism at the center that gives them a mechanical instrument appearance. They use classic bullet-back toggle fasteners and were likely produced between the 1950s and 1970s, when gadget-inspired men’s accessories were especially fashionable. They do not work. The unusual numbering and exposed spring detail suggest they were intended as whimsical conversation-piece cufflinks rather than functional thermometers.
